The Festival of African and African American Music Returns to St Louis!

The acclaimed, performance-focused event returns to St. Louis after rounds in New Orleans, Kansas City, Lagos (Nigeria) and Accra (Ghana). Featuring solo artists and top chamber musicians from around the world, an orchestra drawn from the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as participating school orchestras, bands and choirs from Webster University, Harris-Stowe State University, Mehlville High School, University High School, McCluer North High and Hazelwood West High schools.  Scholarly papers, Lecture-recitals, Discussion forums, Special Gala, Award Ceremony and the launch of new publications by the Oxford University Press, William C. Nyaho’s “Piano Music of Africa and the African Diaspora” and Fred Onovwerosuoke’s “Songs of Africa). A market place for musical works by African-descent composers, and more...

General Information about Lecture-Recitals

Please note that due to the large number of participants expected, we are recommending that paper presentations be limited to 25 minutes, and lecture-recitals to 35 minutes, or less; including discussion time! Please submit the following with your completed registration form by May 31, 2008:

the title of the paper or lecture/recital
an abstract of approximately 200 words, or less
repertoire (for recitalists), including publisher information, if available.

Registration: $100 ($75 if pre-registered online before June 30, 2008).

Students, $55 ($40 if pre-registered online on or before June 30, 2008).
